Testing IoT Services with Appvance UTP

Advanced IoT services testing has never been easier. Functional scripts and use cases can be repurposed for performance tests as well as security tests. And all tests can be created without coding. This allows QA teams to rapidly create, maintain and run advanced functional and performance tests directly with Appvance UTP.

IoT test automation is a critical component of QA and Dev teams today

With Appvance UTP, QA teams may quickly develop and run automated and data-driven functional and load and security tests for IoT services, even accurately mimicking IoT devices. Appvance UTP fully supports several API level scripts for IoT testing, which can be easily written by developers or QA team members. Appvance UTP also uniquely offers use-case recording (automatic script generation) for IoT services.

Appvance UTP transforms test automation and collaboration

IoT services and platforms
A complete re-think of software test automation, Appvance UTP is a comprehensive software test automation platform.

  • DevOps-Ready “Shift Left” to find quality, performance, scalability and security issues quickly
  • Easily integrates with your CI tools to run automatically at each and every build
  • Code-free environment helps teams get high test coverage rapidly, with little effort
  • Data-drive and validate virtually anything
  • Surface critical security issues and DDoS issues, all driven by actual IoT simulated actions

How it works

HTML5 control screens
For HTML5 (control or IoT-browser) applications, a webkit browser is automatically configured to mimic the device/screen. Recording a use case in Appvance Designer (or writing a script in several different languages) results in tests constructed to run including functional UX-level performance, API-level load, business logic driven app-penetration, DDoS security and others…all from the same use case.

IoT Services
For all devices, over 20 scripting languages are supported for coders. Even easier is an automatic script generator for rapid creation of use cases (scripts). The Appvance proxy service captures all communications to and from IoT devices over its expected network and the servers.

That data is used to create a complex data-driven, auto-correlated HAR file script which is used to simulate up to millions of concurrent devices with the Appvance platform. Appvance UTP drives functional, performance, scalability and critical security tests—all without writing a line of code.
